No one likes to freeze

For those of us who hate the cold, we know just how wonderful it is to get back into your house, take off your coat, turn the heater on, and snuggle up under a blanket. When it comes to happiness and warmth, the old adage is true: there’s no place like home. It’s not just humans who feel that way too. Truth is, critters share the same desire for warmth. Only in their case they don’t go back into their own houses… They invade ours! Dealing with pest control in Houston will never be easy, but that’s especially true in the winter.

While Texas doesn’t get as cold — or as snowy — as say Michigan does, that hardly makes a difference. If a racoon, tree squirrel, skunk, bird, mouse, or any other creature, needs to get warm, and your house just happens to be nearby, it’s going to find warmth in the easiest, most convenient way possible. And when one gets in, it’s quite likely more will follow. One mouse can quickly turn into dozens of mice in no time!

What sort of “holiday visitors” can you expect?

We all have holiday visitors we love to have, and some we don’t. Along with your in-laws — we’re kidding!  Here are some unwanted guests, and why they’re problematic You’re likely to encounter these as the temperatures drop.

On top of the mice mentioned above, here are two other pests you may encounter this holiday season:

Racoons

Raccoons can cause serious damage and carry dangerous diseases. While they may look like friendly little bandits, raccoons can destroy your home in a hurry if they make it in your house. Not to mention the damage they can do to your yard.

Raccoons do crazy amounts of damage to any property. They may tear your air ducts apart, make holes in the walls, and even take up residence in your attic, tearing apart the insulation as they build their dens. Females in particularly can be destructive when they’re seeking to build their nests.

Once a raccoon has settled in, they will start to leave messes wherever they settle, which could very easily make you and your family sick. Simply by breathing in the toxins from raccoon droppings, you could develop some serious illnesses.

Squirrels

Squirrels may not be a cause of immediate physical physical danger to you and your family, but that doesn’t mean you want to ignore them. Squirrels can easily spread disease when they come into contact with your pets or children.

Additionally, they will chew on anything they can find — wires, ducts, pipes, insulation, drywall — causing massive amounts of damage if left unchecked.

The last thing you want to worry about this holiday season.
